Do you want to learn to sail? While the best way to learn to sail is by just getting out there in a boat, here you'll find a selection of books that can help you learn everything from the basics of sailing and boat handling, to navigation, boat maintenance and equipment, to the best places to charter a sailboat.

This is probably the best all-round book on sailing available. It is an ideal primer, and used as both beginner and advanced textbook in countless sailing classes throughout the country. Illustrated with delightful and instructive line drawings throughout, this book is a joy to read. It covers all of the basics in a very easy to read style, with numerous beautiful and informative illustrations.
I give copies of this book to any of my friends who express an interest in learning to sail, and use it as my textbook for all of my training classes. It's suitable for committed beginners and also anyone who already knows the basics but wants to learn more. There's no doubt that the best feature of this book is the illustrations - if you're a visual learner, or just need plain instructions to basic sailing concepts, you won't find a better book.
